Planet of the Apes: Review
Directed by Tim Burton
20th Century Fox
Tim Burtons skills at retelling a classic are becoming as finely honed as the edges of his own original scissor-handed character. He gave the "dark" back to the Dark Night in Batman. He gave a new face to the headless horseman in his spin on the legend of Sleepy Hollow. And now he has evolved the characters of our primate brothers in his own "Planet Of The Apes." Burtons clever art of retelling credits the original 1968 classic, but Burton takes that skeleton and puts a whole new skin on it. Literally. The men in monkey suits are replaced by CGI enhanced actors. The actors mimic primate behaviors with an erie realism as the roles of dominant supremacy between man and ape are switched in an instant by a freak space accident. But the plot twists don't end there. We will give nothing away as to the new story or reworked ending. See it for yourself. The visual landscapes are detailed and lavish, the multiple effects are stunning yet subtle, the characters are developed and the story is solid. Go see for yourself, go as soon as you can before all your friends have seen it before you. This is finally the summer movie worthy of being called "blockbuster." Congratulations Mr. Burton, you've taken one classic and retold it to give us another.
