WHAT IS OUR “LOCALS ONLY” SECTION ABOUT? Since MOVEMENT’s humble beginnings we have consistently dedicated our ink to the international, national, regional, state and most importantly the local live music scene. Hundreds of band have passed through our pages. Some were weekend wonders. Others, like one local rap-core band we featured on our cover almost seven years ago, have become some of the most recognizable bands in the world.
Regardless of their level of success what’s most important to focus on is that they are out there playing music. Because that’s what it is really all about. Regardless of if you are standing in front of ten thousand screaming fans or playing to a handful of appreciative fans it is the music that matters. Normally we use our LOCALS section to feature one or two local acts from around the ville. This issue we bring you over 10 bands that are making the Jacksonville music scene move. Some are fresh out of the box, others are seasoned veterans. Some are practicing in their garage, others are signed to major labels. Either way they all equally contribute to the local scene, and we hope you will too by supporting not only these artists but all local music by buying local music and going to live shows.
A very special appreciation must also be paid to the few venues in town who consistently support local and live music. Thanks to thee Imperial in Downtown for bringing quality live shows and playing a big part in organizing this section, Jack Rabbits in San Marco and the Marquee in Riverside for supporting the local music scene and for bringing regional and national acts.

Very special thanks to all the bands, Lisa Thomas-Wagner and Whitney Weiss

Because we are limited by our print space and our dwindling brain cells we don’t always get to include everyone we’d like to. We were hoping to bring you a conversation in this issue with FLOUNDER, former Planet Radio personality, who is mentioned by many of the bands, but time and space did not permit. FLOUNDER has helped the local scene more than anyone may ever know. His show Native Noise, unfortunately was put to rest by the stations corporate parent. It was a tragic blow to the evolution of the local scene. Tune into 91.5 for some pirate radio local support.
You can find a great selection of local music at SMASH music at the Beach and 5 Points, CD Warehouse, CD Connection and NICOTINE in 5 Points.
There are really too many bands to mention all at once but we did want to mention the following as active on the local scene. You’ll see their names around town, help support their live shows and purchase their music.
