[RISING FROM] THE ASH The Movement Magazine interview with Daniel Ash Daniel Ash, founding member of Bauhaus, Tones On Tail and Love & Rockets took a few moments during rehearsals for his current tour to answer a couple of questions for our pages. Movement would like to give special thanks to Patina Creme who made this possible. Daniel will be performing LIVE at the Marquee theater in Historic Five Points in Jacksonville, FL this Thursday, April 4th. A portion of the proceeds from the show will go to helping Patina's family fly out to be with her while she is in the hospital recovering from a car accident (also see Patina Creme interview and benefit information in the "Locals Only" section of this issue) After all this time what currently sparks the passion and fire into your music to make it good in a time when you are "emotionally drained?" "-- alright here is the truth 2 things---- hope and love." Are you planning any further collaboration with Keoki, or have you considered doubling up on a tour? "Nope. Not at the moment." How did you meet/become involved with Patina Creme? "Through Keoki, 3 years ago." What has been the most satisfying thing so far about your solo career? "Freedom." Are you still interested in or collecting motorcycles? "Damn right! When I get the money... I want to build a completely chrome and polished aluminum Harley Davidson motorcycle - absolutely no colors. Just chrome and aluminum ." In an interview with us around 1994-95 you told us that one of your favorite pastimes was going to raves. Have you continued to go to those events and parties and has that been a major influence on your newest music? "I find most raves these days too controlled, however, where's the next rave?... There is always hope." Are there any other musicians that you are planning on or would like to collaborate with in the near future and why? "eno eno eno- for obvious reasons." What is your favorite city or place to perform? "Portland - I always have a wonderful time in this city." What's the stage set looking like for the tour? (Big rock show or modest set?) "Both." Hypothetically, say you only sold ten copies of the new disc and didn't want to wash windows what would be your secondary "dream job?" "Building beautiful motorcycles." |
