Frank Miller is a comic titan. He has been one of my favorite comic artists since the release of his critically acclaimed THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS (which gave new life to the Batman franchise) and his beautifully illustrated sci-fi samurai short series RONIN. Since those days Miller has continued to break ground with his original series SIN CITY.

This week Dimension films will release the live action interpretation of SIN CITY on the big screen. The only problem is that after seeing this film I don't think there is a screen big enough to hold it. Miller, along with acclaimed director Robert Rodriguez (and guest director Quinten Tarantino) immaculately translate the stark black and white comic (touched with spot color for impact) with seamless perfection to the screen.

The cinematography is breathtaking, the casting is flawless. For the first time ever I just can't say one thing bad about a movie. SIN CITY raises the bar for movie making and then vaults high above it. It is a classic right out of the box. Admittedly it is the perfect movie for guys. It mixes brutal and bloody violence with incredibly sexy women, uninhibited nudity, mobster style gun play and car chases, unbridled vengeance, and uncharacteristically superhero-esque characters that you can bond with even if you have never stepped foot in a comic store.
Dimension films was good enough to give us passes for our friends and patrons to see the film a week before opening. The feedback from those that made it out on this Monday night was the best we have had of any movie screening ever. Every single person we spoke to afterward sported a gaping jaw and overwhelming sense of satisfaction having seen "The best film ever!" This is without question one film that I and many others will be returning to the theatre to see again, and again, and again.
