Meet Father Gothic (Richard Pierce) Interview by Kent Donohoe How did you get the name 'Father Gothic'? "Some one called me it one day ...I also get called Spook Daddy because of my son getting called Spookykid..I just became the Spookykids Dad or Spook daddy....When someone called me Father Gothic it kinda sounded tacky but it still had a ring to it...so i just embraced it..." How did you meet Marilyn Manson? "We just happened upon each other...I went to some open mikes for poetry reading and he was at a few...I worked at a radio station and started the first all local music radio show down here ...in 1987 ..so a lot of musicians knew who I was...another DJ there named Joe Desano was friends with Manson and by the time the band formed Joe became their first Manager...He worked at club Squeeze...Also I was separated from my wife at the time and I had a roommate named Chrystal who Manson was fucking so he called the house a lot back in the way early days...about that time I was in a band too and we had a rehearsal bay in the same warehouses as Manson so we started seeing each other a lot...so I had all these demos that Chrystal used to get from him and Gidget and when I had my son on the weekends (Robert) he took to the song My Monkey and memorized it...that's how he (Robert) ended up performing with Manson , singing on his record, and starring in Manson's Lunchbox video." Who are you currently working with on projects? "Currently I'm doing my Father Gothic project ( www.MP3.com/FatherGothic ) and I've been discussing with several other people who expressed some interest in working on some of it with me like Mike Bruce (Alice Cooper) Robin Moulder (Jack Off Jill ) Talena Atfield (KiITTIE) and a few others. I am also writing and recording 2 songs with a 15 yr old pop/punk singer from West Palm Florida named Amanda B.who sounds like a cross between Mandy Moore and Michelle Branche...the demo will be sent to some top producers in the bizz...so this looks very promising to me as a songwriter I am doing some guitar tracks for Robin Moulder (Jack Off Jill) and TC (Anna Thema) on their new bands project called TCR ( www.T-C-R.net ) AND I am currently playing guitar and singing back up for a band called Rambler , which is southern rock /country ....we are recording a full length CD ...have just won a battle of the bands out of 64 bands ..and were just got endorsed by Elixer Guitar Strings....( www.mp3.com/PatRamblerTerrenova )" How does it feel to work with your son in his band "Spooky Kid"? "It isn't really a band , HE is called Spookykid ,( www.Spookykid.com ) mainly because when he worked with Marilyn Manson they had MM & The Spookykids ...Robert was referred too as Little Man , Manson Jr, and Spooky kid ...The name Spooky kid kind of stuck ...He has had some good local musicians help him out with his music, but Robert and I wrote the songs together ...We have some more stuff coming out eventually ...he is mainly concentrating on school right now but Talena (KITTIE) has expressed an interest in doing some tracks for him also when we are ready to start recording the new material...But the question at hand. Well Robert is my son and it is very fucking cool to be able to have a bond with your child like i do with BOTH my sons actually...we like the same music and the same movies and football teams etc ....My other son will defiantly be playing on some upcoming songs also...his name is Josh and he is turning 11 in July..and he is an amazing little drummer....I love my kids, they ROCK!"
