Squaring off, on one side ther's DJ Dimension, first ever to be invited on 89.1's "The Candy Store, ten-year veteran DJ, and professional producer. While on the other side there is William Rosario, Strictly Rhythm artist, renowned mixer, and also a veteran DJ. Sounds like any of a thousand talented musicians in NY, but the real story comes in the magic they create when they team up as The Mega Men.
Both born in New York and introduced through a mutual friend, the Mega Men jumped right into success with a release on the BML label and then later on the Strictly Rhythm label.
Taking a brief look at the past, Dimension was always involved and interested in music. "I can remember making tapes for my grandmother when I was 6. I would record songs off the radio then I'd talk over them." After listening to the styles of Todd Terry, that interest turned more serious. At age 13, Dimension began DJing local clubs and events. While his popularity continued to grow, it wasn't until 1997 that Dimension took the next step and started to produce. Starting with Trance , Breakbeat, and even some Drum N Bass, he finally settled into his love for House music. "I always knew I wanted to do something in House but I did try other styles when I started producing." Soon after he met his current co-producer, William Rosario.
A fellow New Yorker, Big Bill also found music at a young age. "My cousin was a DJ and he got me open with the old school Hip Hop. I was about 11 years old." In 1987, going to clubs like the Tunnel and Sound Factory, he first experienced electronic style, little realizing he would end up working with the music. "The House sound was totally fresh to me. All I wanted to do is dance." With a love of music not limited strictly to House, Big Bill has produced many styles including Hip Hop, Party Breaks and Drum N Bass.
In 1990, Big Will took the next step and embraced production. After many releases and a meeting with Dimension, the duo 'The Mega Men' was born. Since then, they've turned out numerous projects and records together. Occasionally working with other artists and vocalists, such as Jon Robinson, Duane Harden, and Big Ro, the duo can also be heard under the aliases Ghetto Stylez and Soul Symphony.
Although feeling the blast of computer production capabilities has hurt the industry by taking the secrets out of producing, the Mega Men concede that is has helped with making sound editing easier. Choosing to feel out their projects rather than stick to a set layout, the two label their music as "Different, Unique, A blend of Old School with a bit of Urban Soul."
Both men say that they are happy with their current success and believe "The journey has just begun." They've felt the 'bite' of being famous with the loss of privacy, but are emphatic that quitting isn't even close to an option. "The industry is very saturated with lots of boring stuff…record labels, producers, and DJ's need to be creative and not be afraid of being different."
Both original and unique, the Mega Men have made a great impact on the music world with their various tracks and projects. Theirs is a blend of music styles that people are bound to love.
