Historic 5 Points welcomes two
reopenings...
Club 5
One of two reopenings in town are both just across the street from one
another. First is the exciting announcement this month that Club Five
will reopen on the first of August. The club name that reminds the
Jacksonville party scene of its golden age of nightlife. The powerhouse
nightclub who’s promotional team introduced house music to Jacksonville
and brought in its biggest performers as well as the unmatched
entertainment event Saturday Night SEDUCTION, a fetish theatre
extravaganza that is most compared to the lavish and decadent NY club
Studio 54. The wildly popular Fight Night and the summer time ladies
night WET also jump to mind in the long line of popular nights hosted by
Jacksonville’s #1 night club. Though it has been through a schizophrenic
series of identity crisises (The Marquee Theatre, The Acropolis and the
short lived Sound Station) you can’t keep a good club down. Though the
new owners will take their own direction with the new Club 5 and are not
yet ready for history to repeat itself they also have the burden of
living up to it’s previous reputation and carrying it beyond. The
reopening night of Club 5 is on Friday August 1st and the all new Club 5
pays homage to the old crew that made the venue what it was with a
“Family Reunion” party planned for Saturday, August 2nd.
FUEL
Next on the list of grand reopenings is the already reopened FUEL. The
caffeine confectioners have returned to Five Points in Riverside after a
long hiatus after the fallout with Thee Imperial, who have relocated
back to their original home downtown. The all new FUEL has had a major
face lift. New paint, new bars and a new attitude. The classic FUEL menu
of coffee and espresso drinks are still available as well as the food
menu including sandwiches, salads, vegan treats and more. The newest
addition to FUEL is an extensive beer and wine selection. And once again
the venue is a smoke free environment.
The schedule for the week at FUEL is as follows: Monday is merchant
Mondays with specials for other Five Points merchants and $3.00 Murphy’s
draughts for all from 8pm-midnight. Tuesdays feature spoken word with
Crankshaft, $3.00 Tucher draughts 8pm-midnight. Wednesday is Woodchuck &
Wine Wednesdays with wine specials and $3.00 Woodchuck draughts.
Thursdays are Tournament Thursdays, $1/off draughts and espresso drinks
for all chess players. “Friday night Flights” takes off at the beginning
of the weekend every Friday. Wine flights and specials are featured with
a happy hour to midnight. Saturday is “Sedation,” an evening groomed for
conversation friendly events. Sunday FUEL closes at 5pm, but is also
available for private events.
