editorial THE DREAM OF A NEW MILLENIUM A critical look at the Middle East, President Bush, and other stuff. by David B. Smith Jr. - Minister of Propaganda and Popular Enlightenment |
|
I have taken most of the last few months off, basically because I am just tired of dealing with the world. (No, I am not suicidal) After the presidential elections and all the crap with Florida, Bush's cabinet and the latest Kennedy scandal I just grew tired of it all and besides I had figured out Napster, so I plunged into the world of MP3s. Later Minister Csutoras came to Washington DC. However, enough time wasting is enough. It's time to put the world back right and time for me to do it. So, without further ado here we go. I was watching the news the other day and thought I was back in time. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on the TV. Israeli gunships were firing on Palestinian forces. I thought I was back in the early 1970's. Then on the heels of that they said, "the Israeli cabinet has agreed to more attacks." What does this sound like? Does it sound like a democratic society or something else? I'd say something else; More like a military dictatorship, should I even say it? Hitlerism. I know Israelis don't like being compared to Nazis, but if the shoe fits, I say wear it. I wrote an article about how Israelis of present day Israel act a lot like Nazis of the 1930's. In Israel, Palestinians have no rights and are forced to live in ghettos; Sound familiar? I talked about my belief to a friend of mine, Chel Roy - A Jew who lived for years in Israel. Now she says, those Israeli forces are not like that, that they are trying to protect the "Jewish Homeland". She had great fears about Palestinians when she lived there and I am sure still harbors feeling against them, giving credence to my opinion. Germans have been for years Xenophobic; they fear those around them one day engulfing them and they themselves as 'Germans' disappearing. In the 1920's along comes Hitler and starts talking about elbowroom, and BOOM, there goes the continent. Here comes the Knesset doing the same thing; Only this time it's the "oppressed" who are "fighting" for their "right" to "live"; So this makes it acceptable to take the rights away of others. Israel has a history of bombing and fighting for land. Britain finally got rid of the place, because it was tired of the terrorist Jews, who bombed army barracks, hotels and etc. Hmmm, just like the Palestinians do now, but the Palestinians are murders and people to be executed for their wanting freedom. What really rubs me the wrong way is not so much the fact that Israelis act like Nazis, but the fact that this country finances the whole thing. We have been giving money to the Israelis for years and still do. It's time to tell them to give the Palestinians their freedom, or no more money. How about sending Arafat some SAMs? I think he needs them more than Israel. It's time people started speaking about these atrocities. We go to museums and see films about Hitler and get all weepy-eyed, but we allow the same things to go on under our noses. We look the other way because they where once oppressed and we look at them to tell us who is oppressed and who is not. Granted, the Israelis haven't talked about the eradication of the Palestinians or genocide, but everyone has the right to live in peace and to have some rights, no matter how basic. My question will always be- how was it that under Rome, the Jews and Arabs got along without any problems? Speaking of problems. Many years ago I started reading about the Taleban and supported their efforts to free Afghanistan, and I think even the US helped out somewhat. Granted, I knew they were religious zealots, but I still can't believe what they did to the Buddha statues. People from around the world couldn't believe it either. I realize that their religion doesn't believe in any craven images, but come on. These statues were in the middle of nowhere. Read more about the story it's truly saddening. Talking about sad, how about Japan. I have known for many years that Japan as a country has never admitted too much of anything. I talked earlier about Nazis, now it's time to focus in on their ally - Imperial Japan. I just read an article about how Japan has decided to finagle it's way out of paying "comfort women" (Basically women they impressed into prostitutes for the army) and forced laborers. (Maybe Germany ought to look into this) Japan claims that peace treaties took care of the over 200,000 comfort women. If you ever go to Japan, look to see who started World War II, you will find it was "American Aggression". I guess those crazy Americans in Korea and Manchuria shouldn't have sent those letter bombs to Hirohito. I can't believe that this is yet another case of oppressors getting away with murder. I talked to Minister Csutoras about Japan and the war. He states that "...all those responsible for atrocities are long dead.", he was surprised when I told him that it was just the opposite, many were head of large companies and in politics. However, the Japanese did pick on the right people to experiment on and use as they see fit; Koreans, Chinese, other "degenerate" Orientals, Australians, New Zealanders, Pacific Islanders, British and Americans. I have never quite understood how the Japanese got away with it. I realize that the Cold War was just starting and the war in Korea was heating up and McArthur needed a military base, but really he pardoned the whole country? How come Germany never got the break? Germany for years has been making payments to Jews all over the globe for what they did. What do the Chinese, Koreans and Americans get? Nothing, oh, wait, Americans do get cheap consumer goods from them. Granted it's all that Japan is good at, copying others and giving it back to you at a cheaper price. It's like the bargain basement knock-off country. Talking about knock-offs, we have a new president in office a son of a former president. Now I am not saying that George W. Bush is a bad guy, but why is it he immediately gets himself involved in a crisis with another country? I know that his father always-favored China, so why is the son now trying to make them angry? We all know that the father got many popularity votes when he started bombing Iraq, but does George W. Bush need a surge in popularity so soon? There are many problems with this whole debacle. One of the most important is why are we spying on them with junked up old planes anyway? We have tons of spy satellites that fly all over this planet. Why not use one of them? The other thing is, why is it that Americans (mostly republican law makers) have no problem with the US spying on China and even go so far to say that we have a "right" to do so. My concern is; how many of those men would be as quick to say China had the "right" to fly along our coast and do the same thing? I don't think many would, in fact I would hazard a guess and say they would take it as an act of war. I spoke to my father about this whole plane incident, since he was in the Navy. He agrees with me- that they should have ditched the plane into the sea after the accident. They failed in their duty to keep "military hardware" out of the hands of the "enemy". However, they are looked at as heroes for landing the plane and "braving" the 'humiliation' of Chinese 'internment'. What a bunch of crap. If the newswires had never picked up on the story, those people would have all been busted down a rank and probably peeling potatoes for a year. I have been watching all the new 'news media' this country has; Everyone scrambling for the same story, it's so crazy. I have instead started turning to 'CourtTV' and the 'Sci-Fi Channel' just to get away from the deluge of information. I want to remain informed about what's going on in the world, but not about the bake-off in Whateva, Kansas or the guy in Dumbass, Texas who can eat his weight in ribs. I often wonder what do the cable networks not cover? I sometimes, when I remember too, listen to the BBC's world service on the Internet. It's funny, but they have all kinds of stuff on there that apparently CNN, CNBC, and etc. have never heard about, until of course an American tourist is killed there or a plane crash lands on an island. What I am trying to say is this: It's the dawn of a new age (sound cliché?) and it's time that we (as Americans) start getting with the WORLD program. Yeah, I am pissed that Bush decided to forgo the air emissions that the WORLD had agreed upon, but I want to look at the whole picture. Americans seem to be dumbifying themselves. I find myself doing it, when I'd rather watch Wonder Woman re-runs on Sci-Fi. I know that there are millions worse off than me, you can tell by how many people watch 'pro-wrestling' and buy all the junk they sell. People anywhere else in the world can tell you what's going on in other places, but the average American can't. The average American would have an easier time telling you the difference between the two teams in 'Survivor', then what is the capital of China. Many want us to join in this new age of the world, but I don't see it happening. We are still all propped up on our own importance. We tell one set of governments' one thing and when another set is doing the same thing, we tell them to do something different. Where's the equality in that? There should only be one set of rules for the world, not a series of sets, depending on if the USA likes or supports your government or not. People talk about a "one world government" but I don't think that will happen when we have governments too worried about 'who has what', who's the 'king of the hill' and 'my gun is bigger than yours' mentalities. This whole new millennium thing is just very difficult for me to handle. I miss the Cold War, I knew whose side was the right side. I could spot a Communist at 30 paces. Now it's all confusing, there's Coke signs up all over China, Pizza Huts in Red Square, and foreign aid being sent to Vietnam. Where does it all end? If we want a truly "global society" then it's time for us to act like one; Otherwise I say go back to the past where we have Democracy vs. Communism vs. Fascism vs. Socialism. Back then at least something interesting was always going on. It was easy to piss off my parents coming home and listening to Radio Moscow and espousing Marxist-Leninism ideals. Nowadays it's scary because I find views I have on sophisticated Navy ships being ditched in the sea agreed with by my parents. What are we to have? A new age or a re-invention of the old? You decide, but if you want to go back to the old: My staff and I are all ready to go and set up offices in your country, espousing whatever you want us to do, as long as I get the gray uniform and control of the media. Until the next time, I am: David B. Smith Jr. Minister of Propaganda and Popular Enlightenment |
