Glasgow Underground
CD Review
by Brent Csutoras

Glasgow Underground, formed in 1997 to help bring quality Disco music for DJ’s and music fans, has from the beginning been a label with soul. A roster filled with the likes of Romanthony, Idjut Boys, Mateo, and Matos, put Glasgow Underground on top producing numerous club hit twelve inch records and cd’s. Currently pushing for a more live based approach, Glasgow has hooked up with artists like Pascal + Mister Day and Jersey Street. So whether it is a Jazzy tune, full live song based tracks, or the deep club tracks you seek. Glasgow Underground definitely has something for your needs and they are continuing to broaden their scopes to cover all the aspects of music today. So check out a few of their releases and keep an eye out for the future of music that they are pathing the way to.

Pascal and Mister Day
"High Flying"

This duo’s debut album released in late 2000 is a definite ear grabber. The piano, guitar, and horns comfortably mix with the smooth vocals of Mister Day in this relaxing melodic CD. 9 tracks including “Salvation” and “It’s a Disco Night” provide over an hour of non-stop soul touching music great for any time of day. Powder Productions
"Cuban Fire"

The title reflects the obviously influence. Phil Kelsey and Andy Hughes have blended an array of samples and strings into a simply pleasant experience. The CD holds all the complex structure that these greats have come to be known for and it is a definite ear pleaser. Anyone who likes quality music and productions will definitely respect this duo’s latest project. GULP/CD21

Slowburning
-Compilation

Compilations are compilations, as we all know. Most are pretty standard and recycled. However there are the few thought out compilations that deserve the credit due for the purpose they serve. This in most cases applies to the compilations related to a record labels previous releases. Now Glasgow has produced and released their compilation entitled “Slowburning”. A project created to reflect the Glasgow Underground sound with a Scottish twist, the compilation holds some great tracks that you probably have never heard before. A few tracks have been remixed exclusively for this release while others are just simply released on a comp for the first time. Any way you look at it if you like the Glasgow sound than the compilation is a must. GULP/CD14

Phatt Pussycat
"Phatt Life"

Produced by the legendary Romanthony, who recently worked with Daft Punk on “One More Time”, this CD is filled with wonderful vocals brought out with a great blend of funky house. Complete with a stand out selection of tracks that really carries the heart felt funk that good house holds. Kat’s deep silky voice is a perfect blend to the cuts that Romanthony is so well known for and it is definitely a sound that keeps you dancing.
