Post subject: I bring you very sad news |

|
This morning Dave Blood is no longer with us.
David is my brother. Since the breakup of the band David has never
really found his niche in life.
My brother was a smart clever and talented person. Inner peace has
seemed to elude him for the last many years.
Sometime last night David chose to end his life.
He left a note that I don't know all of what it said,he was not
elaborate-but he said he just could not stand to go on any longer.
Our mother passed away at the end of January and maybe David just
had had enough.
There will be a memorial service in a few weeks. I will try to
remember to come to this board and post it.It will be in the
Delaware County area.
Please pray for the respose of my bother's soul; that he now has the
peace that seemed to elude him most of his life.
I want to say that one of the shiniest parts of David's life was
being a Dead Milkman and having that claim to fame. And the fans who
appreciated the talent and time that went into making the band rise
above the ordinary-thank you all for making my brother feel and know
that he was indeed somebody.

UPDATE: MAR. 1 2004
Danger Mouse
Responds to Controversial 'Grey Tuesday'
(Los Angeles) – Originally intended to be a musical experiment, Danger
Mouse’s Grey Album now seems placed in the middle of a brewing showdown
between music activists and major music corporations.
Danger Mouse’s Grey Album uses the full vocal content of Jay-Z’s Black
Album, recorded over new beats and production created using the Beatles
White Album as the sole source material. Danger Mouse explains that "all
the music on the Grey Album can be traced back to the White Album.
Every single kick, snare, and chord is taken from the original Beatles
recording." The resulting record, being touted by music critics as one
of the best remix records in the history of the genre, is a unique
hybrid of work from one of hip-hop’s fastest rising stars.
Downhill Battle, a music activism group, has organized Grey Tuesday (
greytuesday.org ), as a “day of
coordinated civil disobedience” to protest EMI’s cease-and-desist order
against the Grey Album as well as a broader protest against major labels
attempt to “control what musicians can create by limiting their use of
samples.” Hundreds of websites are expected to participate.
“It’s flattering,” says Danger Mouse. “I did this project because I love
the Beatles and Jay-Z. I knew when I produced the Grey Album that there
might be questions and issues that this project would bring up, but I
really don't know the answers to many of them. It was not meant to be
anything but an artistic expression, and I still hope that that is the
way it's perceived".
According to Downhillbattle.org,
the protest aims to draw attention to “how the major record labels
stifle creativity and try to manipulate the public’s access to music,
and it’s the perfect way to explain to non-experts why the copyright
system needs to be reformed.”
“For better or for worse, ‘Grey Tuesday’ is a watershed moment," says
Waxploitation CEO Jeff Antebi, the manager for Danger Mouse. “We are
seeing the rapid speed of peer-to-peer come head-to-head with a rabid,
worldwide consumer demand for forbidden fruit. The internet makes it
almost impossible to hold things back from the marketplace."
In an incredible year so far for Danger Mouse, he has already received
massive critical acclaim for his Danger Mouse & Jemini Ghetto Pop Life
debut on the Lex / Warp label. SPIN calls the album a "remarkable
debut." URB dubbed it an “instant classic,” and Q says it’s
"spellbinding." Danger Mouse is currently producing an array of artists
including Prince Po, Tha Alkaholiks, MF Doom and Cee-Lo amongst others.

SOLO DEBUT FROM
EX-HOLE/SMASHING PUMPKINS BASSIST
MELISSA AUF DER MAUR DELIVERS SOME HEAVY ROMANCE
"THE FIRST ESSENTIAL ALBUM OF 2004" -- Q
(New York, NY) - Auf der Maur, the self-titled solo debut from Melissa
Auf der Maur, will be released in the U.S. on May 18. The album was
produced by Auf der Maur and Chris Goss (Kyuss/Queens of the Stone
Age/Masters of Reality).
Lead single "Followed the Waves" goes to radio March 23rd. Watch the
video now:
http://aufdermaur.com/followedthewaves
"Followed the Waves," the first song recorded for the album, is a
powerful and haunted siren call, with heavy walls of guitar and ethereal
choruses. Elsewhere, the hushed whisper that kicks off "Lightning is My
Girl" gives way to an army of guitars -- tangled webs of dissonance,
powerful harmonies, electric soundscapes -- with sultry and subzero
vocals. And "Taste You" is deceptively sweet-sounding, but completely
ravenous at its heart.
Auf der Maur was a member of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins, two of the 90's
biggest rock bands, but after touring the world extensively for six
years she decided to strike out on her own. A true DIY undertaking, Auf
der Maur used all the money she'd ever saved to finance and coordinate
the making of her solo debut - everything from studio time to pizza
delivery.
"It was important for me to do this on my own, before entertaining the
thought of a record company," says Auf der Maur. "I just needed to make
this album with no thought of how it would actually get out there."
She'd been writing her own songs for years and was eager to assemble a
supporting cast to flesh them out: Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss),
Eric Erlandson (Hole), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins/A Perfect Circle),
John Stainer (Helmet/Tomahawk), long time comrade Steve Durand, and many
others would help bring the album to life.
The album's songs are ferocious, sweet and physically massive. "Skin
Receiver" barrels out of the gate with horses galloping and drums
thundering -- lighting the fuse for a series of musical fireworks and
unexpected sonic turns. "Beast of Honor" goes from angular guitar menace
to dreamy skyward harmonies, growing well beyond the sum of its many
parts. And the mischievously tuneful "I'll Be Anything You Want" is
flirtatious and alluring right up to the moment its hungry jaws snap
shut.
"When I was making this album, I didn't ask myself if it was good or
bad," says Auf der Maur. "I just asked myself, 'Is this me? Is this
honest? Does this sound like my head and heart?' And in the end, it
does. I got to make the album of my dreams."

FUTURE-ROCK'S
FINEST HOUR:
The second e.p. from Brooklyn masterminds The Negatones to be released
Mar.15th
In 1997 two brothers from Brooklyn, Jay and Justin Braun, left the noise
and garage-rock bands they were playing in and formed the Negatones, an
NYC band in the truest sense: a gritty, cross-cultural, genre-defying
melting pot of style and sound.
Despite incarceration, failing analog gear, and numerous crying jags,
the Negatones managed to self-record their first single (Something for
You). This got the attention of Tokyo guitarist Jun Takeshta, a former
classmate of Jay's, who moved back to the U.S. with the sole purpose of
playing in the Negatones. After Jun’s strangely sudden arrival and a few
months of practice, the Negatones recorded "The Heavy EP" and now the
cassette four-tracked "Snacktronica" both of which have enjoyed
impressive critical and radio success. Not surprising, considering The
Brauns also recorded the Firey Furnaces, Palomar, and the Stills'
Atlantic single 'Still in Love Song' all in their rehearsal space.
"This is about as good a rock band as you can possibly ask for." says
Tris McCall in the 2002 Pop Music Abstract. "Their experimentation with
form and integration of electronic elements are simultaneously
courageous and stylish, and they have the instrumental skill to
successfully harmonize theirprog-rock ambitions with their very
infectious sense of humor."
Live, the Negatones are probably the only band in the world to cover Van
Halen's Hot For Teacher, Rush's Tom Sawyer, and Duran Duran's Rio in the
same set. And they do it with such gusto and aplomb you'll wonder if
they're kidding. Simply put, the Negatones are a band so funny you won't
want to take them seriously, but so good that you'll have to.

CURRENT AND FORMER
MEMBERS OF
SAVATAGE "UNITE" TO HEADLINE PROGPOWER V
ATLANTA – Current and former members of Savatage will unite for one
night only to headline ProgPower V this September in Atlanta.
The festival, which will be held September 17 and 18 at Earthlink Live,
will feature Jon Oliva, Zak Stevens, Chris Caffery, and Steve "Dr. Kill
Drums" Wacholz performing a set from Savatage's entire discography in an
exclusive performance. In addition to the full set, fans can expect a
sneak preview of Jon Oliva's "Tage Mahal."
"I'm really excited about this show,” said Stevens. “The last time I
did a full show with these guys was at the PopComm Festival in Germany
1999. I've been waiting for the right time for us to get together.
That time has come and where better than the ProgPower festival?"
Added Jon Oliva: "We've been talking with Zak about doing a special show
ever since he left Savatage, but it's really hard to get every one's
schedules together for a rare event like this. It was nearly impossible
this time around and it probably won't ever happen again, so we'll make
this one special! We plan on playing several songs we rarely ever
performed live...this should be good!”
Germany’s Edguy will return to Atlanta after an overwhelming response at
2002’s ProgPower III. "ProgPower was our first big step in the USA as a
band,” said Edguy vocalist Tobias Sammet. “Glenn (the promoter) had the
balls to take the risk and build something over there to support the
music we all love so much but was claimed DEAD in the USA not long ago.
Well, for ‘dead’ people, all the lovely fans there down in front of the
stage looked pretty good."
ProgPower II veterans Kamelot will also make a return appearance at the
festival. “We are very pleased to be returning for ProgPower V,” said
Thomas Youngblood. “ProgPower is the highest class of the US festivals
and gives many metal fans a chance to see the bands that do not get to
tour the US. We are planning to play songs from our previous albums, as
well as some new ones from the upcoming album that we are currently in
production with. And there are always some nice surprises with our live
shows.”
Progressive metal icons Pain of Salvation will perform an exclusive set
for ProgPower USA this year. The set list will be picked entirely by
the fans via online voting. Details will be announced via the festival
website in the coming weeks.
In ProgPower tradition, several European bands will make North American
debuts - Denmark’s Wuthering Heights, Germany’s Dreamscape, and France’s
Adagio – with Germany’s Brainstorm, Sweden’s Tad Morose, and Canada’s
Into Eternity rounding out the lineup.
Tickets will go on sale May 1 via all Ticketmaster outlets. Only 900
tickets will be made available to the public once again. Gold Badges
(special patron tickets) are already sold-out.
Tickets for the 1,500-seat venue have sold out within two weeks for the
past two shows.
"People keep asking me why I don't move to a bigger venue since the show
sells out every year,” said promoter Glenn Harveston. “Well, the
success of ProgPower USA is not based only on the roster and tickets
sold, but the intimacy and atmosphere that I am able to create. It's
what makes this show unique here in the States."

UPDATE: FEB. 18 2004
BECK
TEAMS UP WITH PASADENA HUMANE SOCIETY TO FIND HOME FOR ROCKET,
CO-STAR OF "LONESOME TEARS" CLIP
February is Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month
Despite exhaustive precautions and preparations, the contest announced
January 17 on Beck.com has been
scotched by a California penal code (#599) prohibiting the selling or
giving away of rabbits and/or fowl as a prize for, or as an inducement
to enter, any contest, game or other competition.
Instead, Beck has teamed up with the Pasadena Humane Society (
www.phsspca.org ), who will put
Rocket, Beck's co-star in the Sea Change DVD-A's "Lonesome Tears" video,
up for adoption at one of their shelters. As it happens, Beck, Rocket
and the Pasadena Humane Society will be teaming up to find Rocket his
new owners just as the ASPCA's Adopt-A-Rescued-Rabbit-Month begins
February 1, 2004.
Beck commented, "We're happy to be participating in Adopt a Rescued
Rabbit month with the Pasadena Humane Society. We're confident they'll
find Rocket the home he deserves and will do so with the most qualified
and caring help possible."
Ricky Whitman of the Pasadena Humane Society added, "Thanks to Beck's
concern, Rocket will find a great home. The Pasadena Humane Society is
very happy to partner with Beck and bring more awareness to Adopt a
Rescued Rabbit month. Most shelters have lots of rabbits that would make
wonderful pets and need new homes."

GODSMACK TAKE
LISTENERS TO THE OTHER SIDE
GRAMMY-NOMINATED ROCKERS UNPLUG FOR FIRST-EVER ACOUSTIC ALBUM, DUE MARCH
18
BAND OFFERS ONE LUCKY FAN THE CHANCE TO HOST AN ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE AT
HOME
February 6, 2004 • New York, NY - Republic/Universal Records has
announced a March 18 release for THE OTHER SIDE, the highly anticipated
first-ever acoustic album from Grammy-nominated rock group Godsmack.
Produced by vocalist Sully Erna and mixed by David Bottrill (who
produced the band's 2003 chart-topping, platinum-selling album
FACELESS), the record features acoustic renditions of Godsmack hits and
three brand-new tracks.
Ethereal and soaked in beautiful bittersweet melodies, THE OTHER SIDE
reveals that Godsmack's intensity has little to do with amp settings.
Unplugged, the quartet (rounded out by guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist
Robbie Merrill and drummer Shannon Larkin) showcase a melodic range and
depth that broadens with each listen, as evidenced by the stunning
stripped-down versions of fan favorites such as "Serenity" and "Voodoo."
"We've always wanted to make a record like this," says Erna. "It gives
us a chance to spread our wings a little bit and offer the fans
something different. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised by it."
Among the album's new tracks is "Touché," co-written by Erna and Dropbox
vocalist John Kosco and guitarist Lee Richards. (Godsmack fans will
recognize Richards as the band's original guitarist. Dropbox is Erna's
first signing to his new imprint Realign Records and
their debut album is due in April).
As an added bonus, one copy of THE OTHER SIDE will contain a golden
ticket granting some lucky fan the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to
host an acoustic Godsmack performance in his or her living room. "In
other words," laughs Erna, "there goes the neighborhood." Godsmack, who
just wrapped up a barnstorming tour of Europe with Metallica and are
currently gearing up for the U.S. leg, recently received a Grammy nod in
the Best Hard Rock Performance category for their first FACELESS single,
"Straight Out Of Line." The nomination is Godsmack's fourth since the
release of their quadruple-platinum-selling debut in 1998.

DROPBOX BREAK FROM
THE GATE APRIL 13
QUINTET IS GODSMACK SINGER SULLY ERNA'S FIRST SIGNING
ON REALIGN/UNIVERSAL RECORDS
February 6, 2004 New York, NY - Dropbox, Godsmack vocalist Sully
Erna's first signing to Realign/Universal Records, will release its
highly anticipated self-titled debut on April 13. The quintet (guitarist
Lee Richards, vocalist John Kosco, guitarist Joe Wilkinson, bassist
James Preziosa and drummer Bob Jenkins) detonate on impact with "DROPBOX,"
an explosive album of sprawling melodic rock delivered by a band with a
deep reverence for the classics.
"DROPBOX" was co-produced by Dave Jerden (Alice In Chains, The
Offspring, Jane's Addiction) and Richards at Eldorado Studios in
Burbank, CA. "It's dynamic and riff-driven with a warm, bass-heavy
sound," says Kosco. "It's the kind of record best listened to with a
pair of those old coil-wire '70s headphones."
Dropbox came together in 2002, after Erna introduced Richards,
Godsmack's original guitarist, to Kosco. "I met John backstage at a
Godsmack show in New York," recalls Erna. "I put him and Lee together
and they wrote some amazing stuff. I really believe in this band." In
fact, Erna was so impressed by the band's bluesy fire, he joined in the
recording process, playing drums on nine of the album's 12 tracks,
including the blistering lead single "Wishbone." Like the rest of the
album, the lusty "Wishbone" has the timeless feel of vintage rock,
complete with the whiskey-soaked croon of a vocalist who can actually
sing.
"John really separates us from the pack," says Richards. "The majority
of today's rock frontmen are rappers and screamers; he has a gritty,
passionate delivery filled with emotion and it frees the band to write
and record pretty much anything we want."
Fans got a sneak preview of Dropbox this past summer, when Kosco and
Richards joined Godsmack onstage during an acoustic set in New York.
Reviewing the show, MTV.com's Jon Weiderhorn wrote, ".[Kosco and
Richards] graced the songs with a little extra depth."
Erna, Kosco and Richards also co-wrote and perform together on "Touché,"
which appears on Godsmack's upcoming acoustic CD, "THE OTHER SIDE."
"Sully and I go way back," says Richards. "Our friendship has stayed
strong throughout the years and that's a rare thing in an industry like
this." The arrival of his first son prompted Richards to leave Godsmack
in late '97. He returned to music a few years later, dabbling in various
projects, but says nothing compares to the feeling of playing with
Dropbox. "After Sully introduced me to John, we went to the studio with
Joey, Bobby and Jimmy and after the first 20 minutes of playing
together, I knew we had something special," says Richards. "Eighteen
months later, we were making a record with Dave Jerden, one of the
greatest producers in rock. Now we're getting ready to take these songs
on the road. So far, it's been an incredible experience and we're just
getting started."
Look for Dropbox to open for Godsmack on U.S. tour dates this spring.

THE VINES TO
HEADLINE
"AUSSIE INVASION" TOUR
Band Debuts "Ride," First Single From Forthcoming Album Winning Days,
On "The Late Show With David Letterman" March 17th
(Los Angeles, CA) - With their sophomore album Winning Days (scheduled
for release on March 23rd), The Vines reveal a more melodically textured
set of songs than on their immensely successful debut, 2002's Highly
Evolved. So will their first North American tour in support of the new
record be a kinder, gentler experience? Not a chance. Dubbed the "Aussie
Invasion" tour, The Vines will bring their ardent, unbridled brand of
rock & roll - as well as noteworthy Australian bands Jet, The Living End
and Neon - to America commencing on March 11th in Houston, Texas. During
a two-night stand at Irving Plaza in New York City, the band will make a
return appearance on "The Late Show With David Letterman" premiering the
album's first single, "Ride." The March 12th show at the House of Blues
in New Orleans will be an MTV2 2$Bill show and will air on the network
at a later time.
As the title suggests, Winning Days finds The Vines in a slightly
sunnier frame of mind. Highly Evolved was the product of four unknown
musicians, writing songs in a suburban Sydney bedroom. With the release
of the album and the hit single "Get Free," the band was shot into
orbit. In the 18 months that followed, they toured non-stop, going from
club performances to headlining massive festivals, landing on the cover
of Rolling Stone (and countless other magazines), performing at the MTV
Video Music Awards and on "Letterman" and selling more than 1.5 million
records worldwide.
After a triumphant sold-out show at London's Brixton Academy, the
commotion all came to a halt when The Vines arrived the following day in
Woodstock, New York. There they met up once more with producer Rob
Schnapf (Beck, Guided By Voices, Elliot Smith) to record at the famous
Bearsville Studios. From this idyllic country setting came an album that
succeeds in the notoriously difficult task of straddling a variety of
musical styles yet remaining cohesive. Upbeat folk songs ("Rainfall," "Sunchild")
mix with the beautiful acoustic balladry of "Autumn Shade 2" and
"Amnesia" while the off-kilter psychedelia of "TV Pro" proves that Craig
Nicholls' songwriting talents are burning even stronger. Yet the band
has retained its ability to produce blistering rock 'n' roll, as
demonstrated by the throat-shredding first single "Ride" and the
scathing "FTW (Fuck The World)," which was released as an internet
single last December. With Winning Days, The Vines have made an album
that clearly demonstrates that the promise they showed from their
earliest four-track demo was no fluke.

THE POSIES
JOIN THE RYKO FAMILY
The Posies, who rose to prominence in the '90s by deftly updating a
classic power-pop sound for the alternative age, have inked a deal with
the Ryko Label Group. By marrying bright, British Invasion-style
melodies and harmonies to loud, potent guitars and quirky lyrics, the
band not only bucked the prevailing grunge-noise-metal-punk trends in
their hometown of Seattle, but they also added sonic aggression to their
ever-present tunefulness.
As always, The Posies is centered around the partnership of
guitarists/vocalists/songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow. The band
debuted on the small Seattle label Pop Llama and then went on to release
three critically acclaimed records for Geffen. Most notable was the Don
Fleming-produced album Frosting on the Beater and its alternative hit
"Dream All Day."
In 1998 The Posies called it quits, but Jon and Ken reunited in 2000 and
toured the world as an acoustic duo before resurrecting the full band in
2001. The rhythm section now includes drummer Darius Minwalla and
bassist Matt Harris, who also plays with Oranger. Auer and Stringfellow
are also members of the reunited power-pop heroes Big Star (namely Alex
Chilton and Jody Stephens), with whom they will continue to record and
perform.
The Posies are currently recording their Ryko debut in Seattle. The
album is tentatively scheduled for late summer 2004.

ONTARIO BASED PUNK
FOURSOME JERSEY GEAR UP TO RELEASE
DEBUT 'GENERATION GENOCIDE' ON EAST COAST BASED
INDEPENDENT LABEL STAY GOLD
Hailing from Burlington, Ontario the members of Jersey -- Greg Taylor
(Vocals and guitar) Sean McNab (Guitars and vocals) Johnny Lubera (Bass
and vocals) and Jordan Hastings (Drums) gear up to release their
full-length US debut 'Generation Genocide' on East Coast Independent
label Stay Gold with distribution through Universal Music Group, look
for the CD to hit the street on April 27.
Already creating a huge buzz in their Canadian homeland Jersey is a
proper punk band in the tradition of the Clash, Rancid and Bad Religion
but the music is infused with elements of Springsteen, U2 and even a
little Tie Domi the result is an eardrum-obliterating, pulse-quickening,
goosebump-inducing opus, Jersey has found a way to twist punk in a
shocking and impressive way to create a sound the stands out.
The band first came together as adolescents in 1996 and all four members
are proudly working-class guys who took day jobs in places like steel
plants, warehouses and hockey arenas to finance the band. Right from
the beginning, Jersey's DIY work ethic has seen them tour across tens of
thousands of miles through Canada, the US and the UK, including four
tours of duty with the Warped Tour, Less Than Jake, MxPx, NOFX, SUM 41
and the Offspring.
Jersey want to have a good time with some good discussion and you'll be
discussing what a good time you had despite yourself. There's no
separation of the musical, the whimsical or the serious from the first
track "This Town" a song that takes a look at the sick underside of
perfect-looking suburbia to "Shop Floor" a track inspired by the hours
Greg spent working at steel plant to "Generation Genocide" (the first
single) and "Old Bones and Dirty Coffins" the examination of
self-destructive attitudes that tear at loyalties and friendships. The
resulting CD is a refreshingly authentic antidote to the current glut of
punk-lite clogging up the airwaves.
Look for Jersey's Generation Genocide to street on April 27 with a
summer trek on the Vans Warped Tour to follow.

YEARS

REVOLVER Magazine, SLIPKNOT have nearly completed work on their third
studio album and are preparing to hit the road - with devastating
effect. The band will be showing off new music and a new stage show, as
well as a whole new look - the band's trademark visage will be changing
significantly for this new campaign.
Their much-anticipated, as-yet-untitled opus is due in stores on May 25,
2004. While top secret at this point, the lucky few that have heard the
Rick Rubin-produced tracks report that it further pushes the boundaries
of this enigmatic band, in all directions: heaviness, melody, and
musicianship are all racheted up. All of Slipknot's releases to date,
including two albums and two home videos/DVDs, are Platinum.
Joey (#1) offers, "We're back and it's been far too long. On the tour

KILLSWITCH
ENGAGE END THE MYSTERY...
BAND ANNOUNCES ALBUM TITLE AND SONG TITLES
New York, NY: Roadrunner's rising stars, Killswitch Engage, have
announced the title and track listing to their highly anticipated
sophomore release. The End of Heartache. The album, a visceral metal
experience that shows off the incredible talent of the Massachussets
5-piece, is set for release May 11, 2004. The album cover artwork ties
in with the title and was designed by the band's bass player, Mike
D'Antonio.
D'Antonio is no stranger to album cover design as he has taken on the
task for the previous Killswitch Engage albums as well as for several
other up and coming like-minded bands such as Shadows Fall and Unearth.
For an exclusive glimpse of the album cover point your mouse to
www.roadrunnerrecords.com
.
The band's multi-talented guitarist, Adam Dutkiewicz, produced The End
of Heartache. Adam, now a well-known and respected producer in the
genre, produced the band's first release and is currently in the UK
mixing the new album with Andy Sneap (Arch Enemy, Machine Head).
The End of Heartache delivers more of the hyper-kinetic metal riffage
found on Alive or Just Breathing, with even more feral drum beats and
unbinding vocals. This is also the first full-length release from the
band featuring Howard Jones on vocals and new drummer, Justin Foley. A
few of the song titles expected to appear on the album are: "Bid
Farewell", "World Ablaze", "When Darkness Falls", "Rose of Sharyn",
"Declaration", "Take This Oath", "The End Of Heartache" and "Break the
Bonds".
The End of Heartache is a grand statement of the level to which the band
has risen; this second album has everything that fans have enjoyed about
the band in a more expanded sonic package that rises to even greater
heights. Killswitch's uncompromising approach to their music is sure to
make new fans everywhere.
Killswitch Engage - Mike D'Antonio (bass), Adam Dutkiewicz (guitar),
Justin Foley (drums) Howard Jones (vocals), and Joel Stroetzel (guitar)
- will hit the road as headliners in early May and can be expected to
tour relentlessly behind The End Of Heartache in 2004.

SUBURBAN HOME IN
TROUBLE, WE NEED YOUR HELP
Dear Friends,
I’m writing this letter today out of necessity. For all those that know
me, I am not the type of person that enjoys discussing the day to day
finances of my business, so please know that I would not be approaching
you if it was not due to a dire situation.
As the retail music industry continues to go through hard times, we have
just been informed this week that our biggest record distributor will be
sending us a substantial retail return. This is the second return in two
months, and they total $40,000. Without getting into specifics, this
means that we will not be expecting a payment for quite some time.
For an independent business like mine, this could prove to be the end of
Suburban Home if we don’t do something about it. Imagine if your
household did not receive any income for three months.
To get to the point, we need your help. We need to raise $20,000 over
the next month and a half, or Suburban Home could be forced to close.
This means that if 400 of you can find it in your hearts to each spend
around $50 on our compact discs, t-shirts, and zines, (we are always
adding new merch and records to our site) this would be enough to get us
through this hard time. Also, there will be a series of benefit shows to
save Suburban Home, and I want to thank all the bands that have already
agreed to donate their time and talent.
The future of Suburban Home Records is bright if we can get through
this. We have so many great releases planned in the near future
including new records by The Gamits, Planes Mistaken For Stars,
Stereotyperider, Mike Park, Laymen Terms, Adventures of Jet, and
others. Our distributed labels(Negative Progression, Fastmusic, Double
Zero, Law of Inertia, Goodfellow, Attention Deficit Disorder, Dying
Wish, Soda Jerk, Status, and Grey Flight) will also be releasing new
independent music throughout the year, and I would hate to see this be
the end of our relationship together.
In closing, if you could find it in your hearts to help us out, we will
be forever in your service.
On behalf of everyone at Suburban Home Records and myself,
Your friend through music,

FUSE, V2 RECORDS
AND THE CRYSTAL METHOD
UNLEASH THE LEGION OF BOOM WITH A 50-CITY TOUR AND PARTNERSHIP
(New York, NY) January 21, 2004– Fuse, the only viewer driven, all-music
network, continues to put up the music as they gain momentum in the
music television world. The network announced that they have partnered
with The Crystal Method (Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland) for an upcoming
U.S tour in support of their V2 Record release Legion Of Boom. The tour
kicks off on February 26 in Sacramento, CA and further underlines Fuse’s
commitment to supporting bands, record labels and delivering music to
fans. The deal will include: exclusive announcements by The Crystal
Method on the Fuse signature daily show IMX: Interactive Music Xchange,
behind-the-scenes access with the band, tour date announcements,
streamed interviews and a dedicated The Crystal Method artist feature
area on www.fuse.tv. The tour will be aggressively promoted by Fuse with
on-air and online efforts to include local, and national print
advertising. “This is so great working with a channel whose main focus
is playing videos, we are psyched!” explains band member Ken Jordan.
“Born Too Slow”, the first single from The Crystal Method’s Legion Of
Boom album, features contributions from former Kyuss singer John Garcia
and ex-Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland. The track, currently blowing
up on the airwaves, has already cracked the top 25 Modern Rock singles
chart. Legion of Boom sold close to 25,000 copies during its first week
in release placing it at #36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, a career
high for the band. Additionally, the album has occupied the #1 spot in
the main iTunes Store since its release on January 13th. The
announcement of the 2004 Dancestar Awards nominations marked yet another
highpoint with The Crystal Method receiving nominations in five key
categories including “Best Act” and “Best Album.” Accolades and hype
aside, Legion of Boom has been dubbed the duo’s best work to date. Full
of dense textures, pulsing rhythms, and electric grooves, the album
features innovative collaborations with Roots rapper, Rahzel, San
Francisco poet/recording artist Hanifah (formerly known as Sha-key),
Lisa Kekaula of the Bell Rays, and instrumental maverick Jon Brion,
among others.
“Together, Fuse and The Crystal Method are about to start a journey that
will rock America. The broad exposure we gain by sponsoring their tour
is significant in furthering the awareness and impact of our brand among
true music lovers” explains Mary Corigliano, Vice President of Marketing
for Fuse. Fuse is cable television’s fastest growing digital network,
nearly doubling their subscriber base from 18 to 31 million households
(Nielsen Universe, April 2003), further establishing them as the new
music television destination.
As a “Thank You” to their fans, The Crystal Method is happy to announce
that each person who brings along a copy of the inner booklet from their

S.T.U.N. Drummer
To Star in New Cypress Hill Video
S.T.U.N. To Play First-Ever International Concert Dates at Japan’s
‘SonicMania’
Bobby Alt, drummer for the punk-rock band S.T.U.N., will take the
starring role in ‘What’s Your Number,’ the new video for Cypress Hill to
be shot this week in Los Angeles. The video will be directed by Dean
Karr (Dave Matthews, Queens of the Stone Age, Marilyn Manson), and Alt
will play Riley, a cool and cocky punk who makes the scene at a small,
trendy club attended by hustlers and players, beautiful women, and
Cypress Hill making the music. Intrigue, sex, and decadence ensues. The
‘What’s Your Number’ track is described by Cypress Hill as a tribute to
The Clash, and is built around a sample from their classic 1979 song,
‘Guns of Brixton.’ ‘It’s an honor to work with Dean,’ said Alt, ‘and
Cypress Hill continues to be just amazing, with ‘What’s Your Number’
being a perfect example of that.’
Once the video shoot wraps, Alt and his S.T.U.N. bandmates (Christiane
J, vocals; Neil Spies, guitar; Nick S., bass) will board a plane for
Japan to play the two-day Japanese SonicMania festival (January
31/Tokyo, February 1/Osaka), sharing the stages with artists including
Rancid, Korn, Evanescence, and Thrice. These dates will mark the band’s
first-ever concerts outside of North America.
Two thousand and three was one wildly-successful year for S.T.U.N. whose
politically and socially-themed lyrics encouraged fans to question
everything and think for themselves. Rolling Stone and MTV named S.T.U.N.
one of the ‘10 Artists 2 Watch,’ their debut CD, ‘Evolution of Energy’
(Geffen) received rave critical acclaim, and they landed a series of
enviable tours including Van’s Warped Tour, The Used, Taproot, the
Vines, Marilyn Manson, Jane’s Addiction, Chevelle, and Vendetta Red. Not
bad for a band’s debut year.
After the Japanese dates, S.T.U.N. will return to Los Angeles to begin
writing and rehearsing songs for their next album. ‘Some of the songs on
‘Evolution of Energy’ are four years old,’ said songwriter Spies, ‘so
we’re looking forward to letting people know what’s on our minds now.’

KILL ME TOMORROW
"The Garbageman and the Prostitute"
KILL ME TOMORROW produce what you might call "noir wave": a sort of new
wave/no wave, gothic-tinged, industrial, electro-post punk. Although
often compared to classic bands like JOY DIVISION, THE FALL and SONIC
YOUTH, KILL ME TOMORROW have frequently been lauded by critics for their
hyper-futuristic, experimental approach to composition and style,
influenced by dub, hip-hop and noise as well as the sparcest elements of
pop. Theyve toured with THE BLACKHEART PROCESSION and THE LOCUST, among
others, and headlined the 2003 GSL West Coast Tour and CMJ show in
October. Their 2001 EP on Silver Girl Recs. featured remixes by Pall
Jenkins (THE BLACKHEART PROCESSION) among others, whetting the appetites
of critics and new listeners alike with the band's raw, art-damaged
brand of electropunk. GSLs recent 12"/CD EP Skins Getting Weird
(recorded and produced by Jenkins at his home studio) and shows
supporting THE MARS VOLTA have furthered interest in KILL ME TOMORROWs
new full-length. Entitled The Garbageman and the Prostitute, the
thirteen-track album was recorded and produced by Steve Revitte at the
bands home in San Diego during the spring of 2003. After much
fine-tuning and countless delays, the record is finaling seeing the
light of day and the band are eager to tour even more than they already
do... The CD includes a bonus DVD with 3 videos for album tracks!! On a
side note, a novel composed of 13 stories corresponding to the album,
written and illustrated by KMTs Zack and K8, is in the works and will be
published some time in 2004.

Sigur Rós
BA BA TI KI DI DO- for Split Sides available exclusively through iTunes
Feb. 3
CD/vinyl release TBS mid-March also to become available through iTunes
on Feb. 3
Beginning February 3, the three pieces of music Sigur Rós originally
composed for the Split Sides performance of the Merce Cunningham Dance
Company will be available exclusively through iTunes. A commercial CD
and vinyl release will follow in mid-March.
Sigur Rós' Grammy-nominated 2002 album ( ) (a/k/a/ Untitled) will become
available on iTunes Feb. 3 as well, marking the first time the record
has been available for legal download.
These three pieces of music comprising BA BA TI KI DI DO were originally
written for the Split Sides* performance of the Merce Cunningham Dance
Company, the most recent dance by Merce Cunningham. The members of Sigur
Rós performed them live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's 2003 Next
Wave Festival, New York on October 14, 2003 and again in Paris at The
Theatre de la Ville between Dec 2-7, 2003. On these occasions the band
improvised a 20-minute section of music over a previously recorded
backing track using two sheet-fed music boxes, a glockenspiel and a
specially homemade percussive instrument ("bummsett" in Icelandic)
comprising eight ballet shoes on a rack. The backing tracks incorporated
recordings of Merce Cunningham's voice and the sound of his tap-dancing
feet recorded at the Merce Cunningham Studio in Manhattan. The results
of the live improvisation (which came to mirror some elements of the
choreography) were recorded at the band's studio outside Reykjavik,
Iceland in late Nov. 2003. The three sections-"Ba Ba," "Ti Ki" and "Di
Do"--are designed to be played in any order.
* Split Sides choreography and each collaborative element were created
in two distinctive parts, such that, for each performance the order for
each element changes depending on the roll of the dice allowing for
thirty two possible combinations. The five elements were choreography by
Merce Cunningham, music by Radiohead and Sigur Rós, décor by Robert
Heishman and Catherine Yass, costumes by James Hall, and lighting by
James F. Ingalls.

Chris Vrenna
a.k.a. TWEAKER
taps Robert Smith, Johnny Marr and others for upcoming tweaker CD
(Los Angeles) - After a two-year hiatus from his alter-ego tweaker,
Chris Vrenna is gearing up for the release of the follow-up to his
critically-acclaimed debut CD, The Attraction to All Things Uncertain.
The new album, titled 2 a.m. wakeup call (in stores 4/20/04 on the
Waxploitation / iMUSIC label), was inspired by themes of insomnia and
dreams. “My wife was suffering a long bout of insomnia, where she would
bolt awake every night, strangely, at exactly the same time – 2 a.m.,”
says Vrenna. “It led to me sharing her insomnia and I wound up staying
up with her and discovered that when the world-at-large was fast asleep
I had unearthed a wealth of creative energy in myself. These were the
hours when most of the work on 2 a.m. wakeup call occurred. It’s a
nighttime record about things that keep us up at night.”
The album, produced and composed by Vrenna and collaborator Clint Walsh,
finds tweaker moving away from the “programming-heavy” texture of the
last album with more focus on “capturing emotional, human performances
and instrumentation.”
2 a.m. wakeup call features a number of guest vocalists that Vrenna
picked to help set the tone for the album’s themes, such as Robert Smith
from The Cure, David Sylvian, Will Oldham, Hamilton Leithauser from The
Walkmen, Mellowdrone, as well as Jennifer Charles from Elysian Fields.
In addition, Johnny Marr from The Smiths makes a guest appearance on
guitar.
A Grammy winning artist and founding member of Nine Inch Nails, Vrenna
has produced and remixed a who’s who of artists, such as U2, Nelly
Furtado, P.O.D., Weezer, Xzibit and David Bowie amongst many others.

COLUMBIA RECORDS
RELEASES NEW CD BY WELSH ROCKERS
LOSTPROPHETS
ERIC VALENTINE PRODUCED START SOMETHING IN STORES NOW
Their body-slamming, fist-pumping, skull-bludgeoning, arse-kicking new
tour de force is so good, with a little luck it could launch the type of
British metal madness not seen since
Rob Halford was still in the closet.” – Revolver
On February 3 Columbia Records releases Start Something, the new CD by
the Pontypridd, Wales natives lostprophets. Produced by Eric Valentine
(Queens of the Stone Age, Good Charlotte), Start Something is the hard
rocking follow-up to the band’s stellar debut thefakesoundofprogress
featuring the out-of-the-box hit single “Last Train Home.”
Start Something delivers 12 new songs by lostprophets: Ian Watkins, Mike
Lewis, Jamie Oliver, Lee Gaze, Stuart Richardson and Mike Chiplin. With
it the band lives up to the promise of Best Metal Band (NME 2001) while
forging something newer, fresher, and more coherent than their debut.
“Standouts such as “Last Train Home” and “Burn Burn” hint at something
awesome,” says Rolling Stone.
Instead of recording this record in one week (as was the case with
thefakesoundofprogress), Start Something was recorded over several
months during the summer of 2003 in Los Angeles with veteran producer
Eric Valentine. During the sessions, the group created a record that
reflects their diverse influences, captures their live exuberance,
(since their inception they have toured with the likes of Glassjaw,
Deftones, Linkin Park, Ozzfest 2002 and more) and points the band in an
exciting direction for 2004. “This is the definitive us,” says
keyboardist Jamie Oliver. “This is what I want people to hear when they
think of us.”

CROSSFADE’S
“COLD” IS THE #4 MOST ADDED SONG AT ACTIVE ROCK RADIO
February 3, 2004 -- “Cold,” the explosive first single from CROSSFADE‘s
self-titled debut album—set for release April 13 Columbia/Earshot
Records—made a huge impact on radio its first week out. According to
Radio & Records, the song (which was serviced January 27) is currently
being spinned on 20 Active Rock stations across the U.S., making it the
#4 Most Added song in the Active Rock format only to be topped by new
songs by Damageplan, Trapt and P.O.D.
“Cold” is also currently in rotation on XM and Sirius Satellite Radio’s
hard-rock stations.
Radio & Records describes “Cold” as a song that “…gives an overall
feeling of foreboding, a feat accomplished through the band’s standout
vocals. The lead singer soars over the top of a bottom-heavy
instrumental, and the harmony is impressive and unique.”
Meanwhile, CROSSFADE--Ed Sloan (lead vocals, guitars), Tony Byroads
(vocals, keyboards and samples), Mitch James (vocals, bass) and Brian
Geiger (drums)—is currently planning a tour of the U.S. which will
commence in the coming months. Fans can log onto www.crossfadeonline.com

FERAL HOUSE BOOKS
TO RELEASE
'CHOOSING DEATH: THE IMPROBABLE HISTORY OF DEATH METAL & GRINDCORE' THIS
FALL
LOS ANGELES - Feral House Books will release Choosing Death: The
Improbable History of Death Metal & Grindcore, written by longtime
extreme metal journalist Albert Mudrian, this autumn.
Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal & Grindcore, which
features an introduction by internationally respected DJ John Peel,
conquers the lofty task of telling the two-decade-long history of this
underground art form through interviews with some of the most esteemed
names in these musical genres, from musicians to producers to label
heads.
"Many people don't understand the true origins of this music," said
Mudrian. "Moreover, I think the secret histories of the bands involved
are just as captivating as the revolutionary music they created."
"This music was another step into outlaw territory beyond any aggressive
music heard before," said John Peel. "I think death metal and grindcore
was a return to a more extreme punk."
For longtime followers, Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death
Metal & Grindcore will revisit critical moments in the genres'
developments. For newer fans, the book will serve as an invaluable
reference piece.
"The enduring impact of death metal can been seen in much of today's
heavier music," Mudrian said. "From metallic hardcore to even
commercial nu metal, countless bands owe a sizable debt to the work of
Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, and Carcass. It's time those groundbreaking
influences were properly acknowledged."

THE PIXIES MAKE IT
OFFICIAL
THE REUNION IS REAL
Band to Play Series of Warm Up Dates, Co-Headline Coachella Festival,
Head to Europe
DVD, CD to be Released
They're talking, they're rehearsing, and they're going to perform
together for the first time in more than a decade. The Pixies,
acclaimed as the most influential pioneer of the late '80s alt/rock
movement, and who effectively blazed the path for groups like Nirvana,
Radiohead and Pearl Jam to rise to superstardom, have officially
confirmed their much-anticipated reunion. The original line-up - Frank
Black/vocals, guitar; Joey Santiago/guitar; Kim Deal/bass; and David
Lovering/drums - are already holed up in a Southern California rehearsal
space working together for the first time since they disbanded in 1993.
In April, The Pixies will kick off an 11-city "warm up" tour of North
America, marking the first time they've toured together since 1992's
massive "ZOO TV" in support of U2. This string of dates will culminate
on May 1 when the band co-headlines (with Radiohead and Kraftwerk) the
first night of this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival to be
held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, CA. The band will then embark
on a European tour starting May 28 and ending July 10.
But wait, there's more. Later this year, 4AD/Beggars Banquet will
release PIXIES, a DVD that features four elements: eight Pixies' videos
("Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man," "Monkey Gone to Heaven," "Velouria,"
"Dig For Fire/Allison," "Alec Eiffel," and "Head On;" a live concert
filmed in 1988 at the Town and Country Club in London; the definitive
Pixies documentary entitled "Gouge," which features interviews with
Radiohead's Thom Yorke, David Bowie, Bono, among others, as well as
"behind the scenes" footage. And if this isn't enough, a "best of"
album with the working title "Wave Of Mutilation - Best of Pixies" will
be in-stores later this year and will offer twenty-three tracks
including a remixed "Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man," "Gigantic,"
"Allison," "Nimrod's Son," "Dig For Fire," and "Monkey Gone to Heaven."
The Pixies formed in Boston in 1986 when Charles Thompson dropped out of
college and convinced his friend and roommate, Joey Santiago, to do the
same. The two recruited bassist Kim Deal who suggested drummer David
Lovering join the group, and the lineup was made official. Thompson
adopted the stage name Black Francis and the group named themselves The
Pixies after flipping through a dictionary. The Pixies quickly gained a
cult following as well as critical acclaim for their signature blend of
screaming punk noise, indie guitar rock, classic pop, and surf rock
riffs mixed with impossible-to-ignore melodic hooks and Francis' bizarre
lyrics about religion, UFOs and metaphysics - their own unique sound.
During their six years together, The Pixies released five albums on the
4AD label - "Come on Pilgrim" (1987); "Surfer Rosa" (1988); “Doolittle”
(1989); "Bossanova" (1990) and "Trompe Le Monde" (1991). Experiencing
particular success in the U.K. and Europe, The Pixies played sold-out
festivals and received a multitude of fan, peer and critical acclaim -
the U.K.'s NME named "Doolittle" the "Second Best Album Ever." The
band's influence was far-reaching; U2's Bono referred to The Pixies as
"one of America's greatest bands ever;" David Bowie called their work
"just about the most compelling music of the entire '80s," and Kurt
Cobain, who identified "Surfer Rosa" as his favorite album of that
entire decade, confessed, when writing "Smells Like Teen Spirit," that,
"Basically, I was ripping off The Pixies."
Tour dates for The Pixies' reunion tour will be announced shortly.

UPDATE: FEB. 18 2004
FLORIDA
BASED ROCKERS
'START
TROUBLE' www.starttrouble.com
GET
READY TO RELEASE DEBUT EVERY SOLUTION HAS ITS PROBLEM
DUE OUT
ON COLUMBIA RECORDS MARCH 23, 2004
FIRST
SINGLE CHEMICAL IMPACTING RADIO IN JANUARY '04
Hailing
from Jacksonville, FL, START TROUBLE--Luke Walker (lead vocals, bass),
Terry Case (guitar, background vocals), Allan Leavell (guitar) and Mike
Crews (drums) are a band with a whole lotta attitude and the hook-filled
music to back it up. START TROUBLE (formerly called TROUBLE IS until
recently when they found out that a heavy metal cover band already owned
the name) has already began to start the buzz.
Every
Solution Has Its Problem, produced by John Travis (Social Distortion,
Sugar Ray, Kid Rock, Save Ferris, Monster Magnet, and Buckcherry) and
due out on Columbia Records on March 23 -- frontman Luke Walker &
company find the crucial synaptic connection between punk-rock and
hip-hop and link these musical neurons together with sly blue humor,
verbal sophistication, and songs that speak the truth -- from
philosophic musings to the outright need to party.
In
classic rock & roll style, the START TROUBLE band members live together,
in a house they jokingly claim is haunted, in Jacksonville, Florida.
The four-piece crank out hormonally charged punk-pop party songs about
everything from getting plastered to, well, getting laid. Luke and his
fellow founding Start Trouble member, guitarist Terry Case, had played
in various bands together since high school, but their latest group, Ten
High, had barely begun gigging around Jacksonville when Matt Pinfield --
of MTV's "120 Minutes" fame, Matt had just started an A&R job at
Columbia Records -- heard a four-track demo of one of Luke's solo songs,
"Chemical," on a local radio show called "Native Noise." Luke didn't
even like the song at the time and had in fact accidentally given the
wrong tape to the show's DJ ("It was one of those songs I just wrote and
threw in the songbin," he shrugs), but the DJ was nevertheless impressed
-- as was Pinfield, who contacted the band and offered them a contract
with Columbia, just one day after they'd almost signed with an indie
label. Look for the single CHEMICAL to hit the national airwaves in
January '04.
"I'm
really happy with the way our album came out, because it doesn't sound
like what's going on out there right now," boasts Luke. "A lot of bands
are using a lot of digital equipment to record, but we did everything
really ghetto-style, in an old studio with old equipment from the '60s,
and it came out real raw-sounding."
The
hip-hop influence is evident on Every Solution Has Its Problem (which
Luke describes as "punk-pop with an alternative-rap twist"), not just in
some of its randy lyrics but also in the pumping, percussive beats of
tunes like "Non Stop," "Retaliate," "Throw The Covers Over Me," and the
beatbox-driven, hilarious, self-explanatory bonus track, "Let's Get
Fucked Up." And onstage, it's these numbers that get the band in a
particularly party-hardy mood. "I really get into it when I sing, on the
hip-hop songs especially," says Luke. "I make a lot of faces; I might
even do some gyrating! I get to grab the mic and jump around and just
act crazy. It's a party on stage."
Ultimately it's all about fun and music for START TROUBLE -- a
surprisingly refreshing and welcome attitude amid the current growing
glut of angst-ridden, sad-sack rock bands that don't seem to realize
that rock 'n' roll is supposed to be nothing but a good time. That's a
big problem, but luckily, START TROUBLE has the solution.

BORIALIS
DEBUT
"WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD" DROPS MARCH 23
(New York, NY) - "What You Thought You Heard," the debut album from
genre-jumping hip-hop rockers Borialis, will be released on March 23rd.
Co-produced by Borialis frontman Rich Dahrouge and Howard
Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, Tupac Shakur) and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge,
"What You Thought You Heard" is a scorching gumbo of the band's myriad
influences and musical passions - classic rock, hip-hop, reggae and
soul, among others.
The band's roots were sown in multicultural Neptune, New
Jersey, when budding 11 year-old rock guitarist Dahrouge met Hispanic
sixth-grader Eddie Acevedo, also a guitarist (more prone to playing
Spanish folk songs) as they were waiting to get chewed out by their
school principal. Forming the band in high school, their newly
recruited drummer pulled up to their first practice with hip-hop
blasting from his car and the different styles of music they learned and
loved only multiplied.
The unlikely coalition of rockers and hip-hoppers was soon
fully-formed - frontman Dahrouge, Acevedo on bass, guitarist Justin
Rubinstein, drummer Jay Kulikowski, guitarist/keyboardist Jimmy Farkas
and turntablist Doc-Nu -- crossing cultural, class and musical lines to
jam together and taking it to clubs up and down the east coast.
Setting free-flowing jams over hard-edged hip-hop beats, the
band quickly became a big draw at local clubs like the Stone Pony,
gaining a reputation for their incendiary live shows and their wide
palette of sounds. Inspired by afro-centric groups like Jersey's own
Poor Righteous Teachers, rock-schooled frontman Dahrouge started putting
his thoughts down in rhyme, a vehicle for his genuine, from-the-heart
lyricism rather than the faux-gangta hardness the band disdained.
The changes resulted in candid, hard-hitting songs like
"Insecurities," where Dahrouge taunts, "Remember me? It's Rick Dahrouge
the loser/The drug abuser, the kid that used to wanna shoot ya." And in
"Why Oh Why," Dahrouge claims himself as "just another white kid who
suffered an identity crisis/I ain't the only one, I know that many are
like this."
But the band's new edge quickly landed then on the punk-centric
Warped Tour, where for the first time the band began to see appreciative
Mohawk-headed fans at their shows. And as a testament to their
versatile sound, they were soon featured in two years of the truly
diverse Sprite Liquid Mix Tour, where they played with Jay-Z, N*E*R*D,
The Roots, 311 and Hoobastank.

TAIWANESE METAL BAND
CHTHONIC
TO
PERFORM IN FRONT OF PRESIDENT’S
HALL
AND CHOSEN TO RECORD MANDARIN THEME FOR ‘FREDDY VS. JASON’ RELEASE
TAPEI,
Taiwan – Taiwanese metal band Chthonic will finish out a momentous year
in its career with two more extraordinary events: playing the annual New
Year’s Eve concert in front of President’s Hall and the release of the
band’s Mandarin theme for the 21st Century Fox Taiwan release of “Freddy
vs. Jason.”
Chthonic will play with New Year’s Eve concert alongside the country’s
biggest artists, including Jolin Tsai, Jay Chau and more. The show will
be broadcast live by FTV (Formosa TV). Earlier this year, Chthonic won
Best Rock Group award at the 14th annual Golden Melody Award, the
biggest music award in Mandarin countries. The award was presented to
the group by Taiwan’s president Chen Shui-bian.
Though
the “Freddy vs. Jason” film will not be released until January 22,
Chthonic’s theme single, “Satan’s Horns” is set for release on December
30. A music video for the track will combine footage of Chthonic and
film clips for a truly horrifying visual experience.
“Personally, I like ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies, and my name is
Freddy coincidently,” said Chthonic vocalist Freddy. “I don't think
this movie is scary, but I like the concept that you can’t tell if it’s
dream or reality.
After
writing to New Line Cinema U.S. to inquire about the film’s release in
Taiwan, Freddy was directed to contact 21th Century Fox Taiwan, its
distributor in Taiwan.
“I sent
an email to them to find out the ‘in theater’ date and I also introduced
myself,” said Freddy. “That led to a discussion about a cooperation
between us.”
Chthonic will be at the January 17 “Freddy vs. Jason” premier and press
conference to promote the film. The band will also play a “Freddy vs.
Jason” concert on January 31 at The Wall House Live in Taipei. The
concert is free to anyone with a “Freddy vs. Jason” ticket stub.
Chthonic has released three full-length albums: “Where the Ancestors'
Souls Gathered,” “9th Empyrean,” and “Relentless Recurrence.” The group
made it’s United States debut at the 2002 Metal Meltdown festival and
returned that year for a performance at the Milwaukee Metalfest.
