When Planet Radio's music festival "PLANET FEST 6" came along MOVEMENT conceived the notion of recording the bands on the locals stage and releasing a CD in conjunction with Planet Radio, not only to help continue the exposure of the local acts who won their slots on the bill, but to help Planet Radio give back to the local scene who this communication giant basically only supports once a year by providing a small side stage on the ass end of their annual corporate rock festival. We worked cooperatively with live music guru and locals stage producer Tim Hall and Planet Radio's promotion director Screven Jones to make this project a reality. We had all the bands sign release forms (except for BOUND who opted out) and paid sound engineer Fred Hamrick to record their entire sets for us to choose the best tracks from.

Sadly things started falling apart from there. To start, the quality of the recording Fred did was not up to any professional standard. When we contacted the bans to offer them a copy their recordings and get the song title for the track we chose we were shocked to find that Fred had approached some of the bands and talked them into actually buying his piss poor recordings. If you or any band you know have the unfortunate displeasure of running into Fred you should be sure to tell him what a sleaze ball he is to rip off hard working local bands by soliciting them their own recordings which he had no right to sell in the first place. After we took the recordings into a few local studios and were provided some clever and lengthy mastering, the tracks sounded decent enough to finally consider the release. By this point we decided to release the compilation as a free download on our site as we had done first with the FREQUENCIES artist compilation. This apparently did not sit well with the money driven heart of our radio partner. So as a final blow in this uphill battle, Planet Radio's Screven Jones, who all the while fully supported the project and even when we raised concerns about the recording quality and costs of mastering insisted that we move forward on it, inexplicably retracted his support and went so far as to threaten a law suit if we released it claiming we would somehow "hijack" his brand and his event by doing so. His only real excuse was that it would somehow interfere with his promotion for Planet Fest 7. Which is of course just ridiculous, so we asked him to explain how we would be hijacking anything or how it would interfere with any promotion and he could not give us an answer. This is of course because it could only help add awareness to the event and gain more excitement and respect for the local aspect. Sadly, Screven's shortsightedness, unwillingness to communicate and bold threats eventually lead to the final call to not pursue this release.

So here we are, no way for our small independent grassroots publishing group to recoup our investment for recording and mastering the project due to the threats from the multimillion dollar corporate radio station. Instead we're left with no option but to tell our story and reiterate our consistent and unending desire to support of the local scene. We've listed the bands above that were on the Planet Fest 6 locals stage and encourage you to visit their sites and please, as always, support your local scene!
