Damien Rice is contributing two recordings to the upcoming animated feature Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet including the original song composed specifically for the project, “Hypnosis.” The film’s soundtrack will be released July 31 via Warner Bros. Records. Listen to “Hypnosis” here: http://bit.ly/1f6Jkmh.
Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet was produced and spearheaded by Salma Hayek-Pinault and is based on the classic, internationally acclaimed and best-selling book by celebrated Lebanese author, Kahlil Gibran. The movie’s voice cast includes Hayek-Pinault, Liam Neeson, Quvenzhané Wallis, John Krasinski, Frank Langella and Alfred Molina. The score is by Oscar winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient) with additional music for the soundtrack by Oscar winner Glen Hansard (Once), Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and Lisa Hannigan. The film was an official selection at Cannes, made its North American premiere in Toronto, and will open in New York and Los Angeles on August 7.
No stranger to film soundtracks, in 2004, Rice contributed tracks to the Mike Nichols’ Oscar-nominated movie Closer. The songs “Blower’s Daughter” and “Cold Water,” off his Platinum debut O, were the central pieces of music for the film.
Furthermore, Rice is currently on a worldwide tour celebrating his latest album My Favourite Faded Fantasy. The summer stops include Celebrate Brooklyn, Chicago’s Pritzker Pavilion and Belgium’s Rock Werchter Festival. See details below.
Of his live set, Billboard hails, “Spellbinding, captivating, riveting, mesmerizing, dazzling—there aren’t enough words in the thesaurus to convey the bravura and depth it takes to hold an entire room in 2014 for two hours with no production, no visuals, no frills, just songs and stories.”
The record debuted #1 in Ireland, #2 in Holland, #3 in Belgium and #7 in the U.K. Rice also performed the album’s single “I Don’t Want to Change You” on “The Late Show with David Letterman”: http://bit.ly/1Tgs2Tp.
My Favourite Faded Fantasy was produced by renowned producer Rick Rubin and Rice. The recording began in Los Angeles and finished up in Iceland.
