Toronto-based Dilly Dally have been steadily gaining buzz from their live performances and a series of great singles that included “Candy Mountain” and “Next Gold”. The band has returned with a devastating new track called “Gender Role” which debuted at The FADER and is being offered as a free download.  In an older track review for “Next Gold”, Pitchfork wrote that “(Katie)  Monks mumbles, slurs and shouts with more charisma than most vocalists can muster perfectly on-key,” but those same words could easily be applied to the vigor and emotion that lead-singer Katie Monks has lent to “Gender Role.” Forcing their way out from deep in her gut, Monks’ tortured moans are unhinged yet the band is taut, playing with a precision that belies their years or output.
In a description of their new song, Monks told The FADER that  “Lots of lyrics in the song are sexual fantasies that push and pull against different gender stereotypes. Every time we play it live, the lyrics change slightly–I can’t control them. Ultimately the song is about the frustration I feel… almost like an argument I’m having with my own body sometimes……how my fantasies rarely line up with who society expects me to be. Endlessly being challenged by my own secret thoughts.
Within that frustration and confusion, there is a luring sense of danger and discovery…. maybe some people won’t think the song is sexy, but I think of it as being really sexy. Like a huge release.”

About Dilly Dally:
Dilly Dally began as a teenage dream shared by Katie Monks and Liz Ball. The two shared a love for dreamy, grungy guitars, epic pop ballads, and began writing music together in their Toronto apartment.
In spring 2014, Dilly Dally self-released their first single, entitled ‘Next Gold.’ The song has since received praise from Pitchfork, NME, and Brooklyn Vegan. It came from a collection of material the band recorded with producers Leon Taheny (Owen Pallett, Austra) and Josh Korody (Fucked Up, Greys) at Candle Studios. That October, the band released a 7″ single “Candy Mountain/Green” through Fat Possum/Buzz Records.

It’s taken a few years for the band to fall into itself with the right people, but with the addition of Benjamin Reinhartz (drums) and Jimmy Tony (bass) joined this year, their live sound has never been more energetic. The band is currently at work on their first full length record.
