|ALT ROCKERS LOTUS CRUSH TOURING THIS SUMMER
NEW ALBUM RABBIT HOLE IN STORES NOW!
The band, featuring Scotland-born vocalist Terry McDermott, who shot to fame as a member of Team Blake and a Season 3 runner-up on NBC’s hit The Voice, along with former Candlebox members Scott Mercado (drums) and Peter Klett (guitars), and Island Styles (guitars) and Mark Mattrey (bass), will hit the road on July 8 in Salt Lake City and cruise through the U.S. and Canada on tour before wrapping up in Denver on August 1. It is a co-headline run with My Body Sings Electric.
The band’s sophomore effort Rabbit Hole, is out now via Cavi Gold Records. Watch the band’s video for “Hearts and Minds,” featuring actor C. Thomas Howell, here.
If you were not previously familiar with Lotus Crush, well, let’s correct that, and give you a crash course in Lotus Crush’s anything-but-typical origins, which began to take root in the mid-’00s.
Back in 2006, McDermott was fronting Driveblind, who had just dropped their self-titled, major label debut. Invited to support multi-platinum alternative rock luminaries Candlebox on tour, the frontman forged an instant bond with Candlebox’s Klett and Mercado, sharing a love for Pink Floyd, The Verve, and other British heavyweights.
Unfortunately, Driveblind disbanded, with McDermott relocating to New Orleans. However, on a whim in 2010, he reached out to Klett about doing a project together. Klett called Mercado and Lotus Crush were born. They released Half Light Morning in 2011 and began gigging.
“We were on the cusp of something special,” recalls McDermott about the band’s coming together. “It was a real evolution for me. We didn’t have a label or any support the first time around, so it wasn’t able to sustain itself. It just wasn’t the right time back then.”
The right time materialized in 2014, when the band reconvened at Robert Lang Studios with producer Todd Burman and began crafting what would become Rabbit Hole.
Clearly, there is a musical connection between the members, one that gets stronger with each release and each show.
“We’ve just toured Europe and showed people over there what we can do,” said McDermott. We’re excited to let people here in the U.S. see and hear what we can do with this great record performed live.”
