New LP Brace the Wave Out 9/4 on Joyful Noise Recordings

Lou Barlow will release his new solo album, Brace the Wave, on September 4th via Joyful Noise Recordings. Fans can now stream & share lead single “Moving” — a track inspired by Barlow’s recent relocation from LA back to his home state of Massachusetts — where it premiered with NPR or via Soundcloud.Brace the Wave is Barlow’s first solo release in six years, and adds to an extensive and celebrated discography that includes releases from Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, and his first solo endeavor, Sentridoh. Recorded in under a week with Justin Pizzoferrato (who also worked on Dinosaur Jr.’s BeyondFarm, and I Bet on Sky) in Easthampton, MA, its lyrics explore yet another transitional period in the songwriter’s life. Tracks like “Redeemed,” “Wave,” and “Moving” employ Barlow’s early methods of tuning his ukelele down low and writing during the recording process, while album tracks “Lazy” and “C&E” are traditional-style folk songs that he performed live in the studio. The album is currently available for pre-order, with 500 hand-numbered VIP copies available on pink & seafoam marbled vinyl. Of the 500 copies, 100 will include an original Lou Barlow Poloroid “selfie” inserted into the artwork.

Currently on tour with Dinosaur Jr., Barlow will celebrate the release of Brace the Wave with a string of solo dates kicking off in Boston on September 8th — see below for a full list of upcoming shows.
